The Stationers’ Company welcomes applications for membership from people who live outside the United Kingdom and who are or who have been actively engaged in the Communication and Content industries.
The categories of membership are set out on our Individual Membership page (where you can find a link to the application form in the section headed Joining the Stationers' Company) and are open to international as well as to UK applicants. International applicants may apply for membership as Freemen and to proceed, where appropriate, to become Liverymen of the Company.
Why Join the Company as an International Member?
International Membership of the Company offers the opportunity to:
International Freeman - Maurice Schijns, Key Account Manager, Tombow Pen & Pencil GmbH
"As international key account manager at Tombow Pen & Pencil GmbH I became responsible for the UK business in March 2012. I noticed very quickly that our industry in the UK is driven in a very traditional way through networking and relationships.
I joined the Stationers’ Company because I believe in these traditions, have a passion for our industry and like to be connected to a lot of nice and interesting individuals which actually make our industry work. In addition to this I wanted to support the aims of our Stationers’ Company, particularly the educational initiatives and charities.
Being a part as Freeman of our Stationers’ Company gives me the opportunity to attend debates, lectures and other special events where I meet interesting people from not only our OP industry but other allied trades on a regular base. The Stationers’ Company has always given me a warm welcome, which helped me turning business relationships into friendships."
International Freeman - Jan Reichelt, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Mendeley
As an entrepreneur and investor in the professional information services and content industry I'm proud to be a part of the Stationers' Company. It is the perfect place to reflect on and cherish the history of the communications and content industry, but at the same time network with those people and thought-leaders that are shaping its future.
The Stationers' Company, building on its history and traditions, is incredibly open and interested in new developments, innovative discussions (e.g. see the Stationers' Company Innovation Excellence Award), and bringing together professionals from the industry to learn from each other, but also to simply have a good time, via dinners, drinks, and events.
In addition, the Company's dedication to supporting education is something that is very dear to my heart as well. It's a very supportive and warm environment, which has helped me as a "foreigner" living in London to build a network of professional contacts, friends, and at the same time provides a platform to advance our industry and support charitable work.
Flexible Membership Procedures
Members based in the UK visit Stationers’ Hall in the course of joining the Company but we appreciate that this may be more difficult for international members.
We encourage those interested in membership to get in touch to explore how they might most easily learn about the Company and go through the membership procedure.
