Artificial Intelligence is impacting all aspects of the Communications and Content Industries, the core of the Stationers' Company's membership. This webinar, cohosted by our North American membership, will explore the impact of AI on rights and intellectual property.
Panelists will include Catriona Stevenson (The Publishers Association, UK), Jane Friedman (The Hot Sheet), and Mark Milstein (vAIsual). The panel will be moderated by Roy Kaufman, Freeman and Managing Director of Business Development at the Copyright Clearance Center, with an emphasis on how different markets and segments of our shared industries are considering these topics.
This webinar is open to Members of the Stationers' Company at 10 GBP, and guests at 12 GBP. Registrants will be contacted prior to the event via email to submit any questions they would like to share in advance.

Jane Friedman has spent nearly 25 years working in the book publishing industry, with a focus on author education and industry reporting. She is the editor of The Hot Sheet, a paid industry newsletter for authors, and was named Publishing Commentator of the Year by Digital Book World in 2023. Roy Kaufman is Managing Director of both Business Development and Government Relations for CCC. Prior to CCC, Kaufman served as Legal Director, John Wiley and Sons, Inc. He is a member of, among other things, the Bar of the State of New York, the Author’s Guild, and the editorial board of UKSG Insights. Kaufman also advises the US Government on international trade matters through membership in International Trade Advisory Committee (ITAC) 13 – Intellectual Property and the Library of Congress’s Copyright Public Modernization Committee. He serves on the Executive Committee of the of the United States Intellectual Property Alliance (USIPA) Board. He was the founding corporate Secretary of CrossRef, and formerly chaired its legal working group. He is a Chef in the Scholarly Kitchen and has written and lectured extensively on the subjects of copyright, licensing, open access, artificial intelligence, metadata, text/data mining, new media, artists’ rights, and art law. Kaufman is Editor-in-Chief of Art Law Handbook: From Antiquities to the Internet and author of two books on publishing contract law. He is a graduate of Brandeis University and Columbia Law School.
Catriona MacLeod Stevenson is General Counsel and Deputy CEO at the Publishers Association. Catriona has extensive experience in advising creative industries and brand owners, having previously worked for the global recorded music industry trade association, IFPI, and as a successful IP litigator at Bristows LLP.
Catriona is a member of the British Copyright Council Board, the International Publishers Association’s Copyright Committee and AIPPI’s Copyright Committee. Catriona participates in WIPO’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights and Advisory Committee on Enforcement as a publishing industry delegate. She is also a member of the IPO’s Research Expert Advisory Committee and the UK IP Crime Group and has close connections with the City of London Police IP Crime Unit (PIPCU).

Milstein has been a featured speaker at numerous conferences and webinars, where he has talked about generative AI, synthetic media and AI ethics. Milstein founded Microstocksolutions LLC, the leading provider of DAM agnostic ingestion, curation/ review, metadata, and visual asset management services for the visual media industry, the Fortune 500 and beyond. Milstein also founded two of Central and Eastern Europe's most respected photo agencies, Northfoto and Red Dot. Red Dot, founded in 2000, was Eastern Europe's first web-based photo agency. In 2011 Red Dot was sold to Czech photo agency ProfiMedia. Northfoto, founded in 2003, continues to operate as an independent licensing platform for editorial and stock photography and video.
From 1991 through late 2000 Milstein covered more than 20 conflicts and major natural disasters as a photojournalist for Atlantic News Service. More than four years of that were spent photographically chronicling the war in the former Yugoslavia, and included working in Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia. During the second half of the decade, Milstein covered wars in Chechnya, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Cyprus, Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, Iraq, Kuwait, Turkey, Congo, and Kosovo.
